Pearson people & state presence

Registered representation, advertised responsibilities, and the questions to validate inside Pearson.

A documented baseline, with clear limits.

Initial review of ten Priority 1 states; counts cover matched Pearson-named clients, not an exhaustive audit of all affiliates or employees. Lobbyist registration does not establish an employee relationship, CTE assignment, access to a legislator, or revenue opportunity.

What the evidence establishes

The current sales posting describes a management role and cross-functional partnerships. Public sources do not provide a complete, current roster of Pearson’s Government Relations or sales employees.

Government Relations governance — dated policy

The policy linked from Pearson’s current corporate index was updated August 14, 2024. It describes Global Government Relations oversight of lobbyist retention, annual review, registrations, government-contact records, and legislative tracking. The Board’s Reputation & Responsibility Committee oversees lobbying activity. These governance responsibilities do not establish today’s employment reporting lines.

A leadership name required correction

The 2024 policy names Chuck Melley as SVP, Global Government Relations and Policy. CodeAI’s current leadership page identifies him as its Senior Vice President of Policy, Advocacy and Communities and describes Pearson as prior experience. He is therefore not presented here as Pearson’s current head. The current global and U.S. Government Relations leaders have not been confirmed in this review.

Secondary evidence

An advertised U.S. Government Relations relationship

A syndicated Pearson Principal, Government Relations vacancy describes reporting to the Head of U.S. Government Relations, responsibility for assigned states, and liaison work with business units. This supports a research lead about role design. It does not establish who holds either role, current staffing, or an authoritative organization chart.

Apply the research to strategic planning

Analytical recommendation

Proposed planning framework: connect each state’s funding pathway to an eligible offering, a credible buyer, implementation ownership, and measurable learner outcomes. Use Government Affairs and Sales together to test that plan. This is analysis informed by public sources, not a confirmed Pearson plan or an attributed company endorsement.
